Continuing the commitment in the field of international cooperation, this year the council has decided to fund a project of health education and conservation of local biodiversity. The amount paid by the city this year is € 2,300 and is destined to the region of Tamil Nadu, in southern India. Last year the council had supported through a grant of € 3,000 for the association Dream Amawom, the construction of the roof of a library in Abia State in southeastern Nigeria.
This year’s project, which will run throughout 2014, continuing a fruitful relationship that the City of Pistoia had established with the association Magic Green following the devastating tsunami of 26 December 2004. One of the characteristics of cooperation activities of the City, in fact, is to give continuity and completeness of the projects undertaken, even when switched off the spotlight on the international emergencies. Now, in an area that is considered one of the 18 hot spot the world’s biodiversity, but where in the last fifteen years have seen to a speculation that has led many native plants at risk of extinction, you’re going to realize, thanks to the assistance of the City of Pistoia, the training courses to forty young boys and girls, in order to address the main problems of these populations, related to the kinds of little balanced diet and poor, in extremely precarious conditions of hygiene and a tendency to migrate to the cities, with the consequent loss of traditional knowledge and the spirit of the community.
These young students, once trained, will in turn be trainers in their respective villages. The project also plans to entrust their plants with a value of dietary supplements, they can be planted in local communities. At the same time other plants will be distributed in schools throughout will be produced and distributed 1,000 new plants, while the number of people who will benefit directly the project exceeds the 1,800 units.
