New landfill, the promise of Marino "No more health risks ... - The Republic

Here is the text of the letter that the mayor addressed to all the inhabitants of the capital. This is the commitment of the mayor to the city on the issue of waste and the environment

Care and dear Roman Roman
I am writing with regard to waste in order to dispel fears and suspicions on a matter which has too often been poorly addressed, without the necessary knowledge and, at times, not in the interest of all. Into It ‘s true, in our country the waste are still an issue. Especially in a city like Rome.

It ‘s true, often the institutions have not played their role with skill and diligence. Sometimes there were clear with the public and have not been efficient.

For more than thirty years has been used as landfills that welcomed waste.

They are true monsters like Malagrotta.

New Malagrotta no longer be there and there will be none.

Malagrotta will close forever on September 30 and this is a good news for all the Roman and Roman .

But something had already changed also Malagrotta.

Since April of 2013, in fact, do not give more waste. So it is possible that a landfill is filled with stinking garbage, able to ferment, pollute the air and the water.

Each new landfill that will be activated only welcome waste treated and stabilized. We consider it essential for the health of the people and for our environment and it is also a legal requirement imposed by Europe.
In Rome, the rubbish, the so-called talquale, will never be disposed of in landfills.

Into The

best way to minimize the landfills, however, remains the differentiated collection. Collection that the institutions undertake to increase and make it more functional.

But we need the help of citizens. We need your commitment, combined with our own, to do things better in the interest of all.

More means less waste landfills.
It means to recover resources from the waste cycle.
It means to get cleaner and more livable city, suitable for children.
means less health hazards.

When I ask this kind of commitment is right to tell you what needs to be mine.

I am committed to improve, increase and make more efficient recycling.

I am committed to making sure that the word dump is never more synonymous with risks and dangers.

I am committed to making a landfill site where waste is buried without inconvenience to the people.

I will realize what I do and explain my choices, always and with transparency.

Ignazio Marino, Mayor of Rome
