Tomorrow in Modena international conference on mental health in ... - Sassuolo 2000

teenagers The incidence of mental illness in adolescents is now very well documented in the scientific level, where we show how the children in this period of their life are particularly vulnerable. It is estimated that 75 percent of mental health problems begin before the age of 25 and 50 percent between 12 and 25 years. Despite these data, young people with psychological and psychiatric disorders often do not have access to the care they need, only one out of four, in fact, receive professional help. The consequence is that this underestimation should have an impact on school life, work and relationships, pulling into adulthood.

From this awareness and the importance and urgency of these issues, the chairs of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, led by the Professor. Ernesto Gruner and prof. Mark Rigatelli, have promoted an international conference entitled “Towards a new approach to the mental health of children and adolescents: new paradigms and new collaborations in research, education and services”, which will be held tomorrow, January 21, 2014 at the Chamber of Commerce of Modena (via Ganaceto 134) beginning at 9:00 am.

The aim of the conference is to present the latest developments in the context of studies on the mental health of children and adolescents, which will contribute a panel of national and international experts, as well as to help identify new approaches and new models intervention for adolescents, supported by the belief that it is increasingly necessary transformation of mental health services by making them closer, accessible, timely and effective intervention.

psychiatry and neuropsychiatry children are now involved in a process of radical transformation, which occurs due to the recent discoveries in neuroscience, most notably genetics and epigenetics, the contribution of translational research, implementation and validation of models of intervention on mental wellbeing involving on the one hand the integration between different disciplines, on the other hand a culture of care that emphasizes prevention and the active participation of the community.

“It ‘indispensable – said prof. Ernesto Gruner of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia – identify new epistemologies, as well as overcome old patterns of classification and logical simplistic cause-and-effect. Nor can we forget the stigma that is still associated with mental disability and that, if not prevent, certainly delays the intervention of those who need it. The boys must instead be able to easily access mental health services, which increasingly will be , and actively participate in the care pathway. The renewal of the services that we hope will also provide for a more active participation of the community in the promotion of the welfare of the younger generation, as well as greater attention to the latest developments in scientific knowledge in this area and therefore the models of treatment proven effective at international level . An example in this regard is represented by Canada, which has been able to integrate the resources available to develop measures of excellence: the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia can build a good reference point in this process of renewal, starting from the cooperation with this country that has a system of welfare and training comparable to that of Europe. “

The conference opened with a welcome from the Rector of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, prof. Angel O. Andrisano, prof. Paolo Paolucci, Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences Maternal Infant and the Adult and prof. Mark Rigatelli the Department of Diagnostic Medicine, Clinical and Public Health, both of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, will be introduced by prof. Michel Maziade, Professor of Psychiatry at Laval University (Canada), Marco Battaglia, a professor of Psychiatry at Laval University (Canada), Professor. Ian Boechk, director of “Boechk Graham Foundation” in Montreal (Canada).
