Health: hypertension more 'dangerous for women than for men - AGI - Italian News Agency

(AGI) – Washington, January 2 – The high pressure could potentially be more ‘dangerous for women than for men.
According to a study conducted by scientists at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, published in the journal Therapeutic Advances in Cardiovascular Disease, researchers have shown for the first time that there are significant differences in the mechanisms that cause high blood pressure in women than men. In the comparative study were compared with 100 men and women age ‘more than 53 years with hypertension and not under treatment. The results showed a rate of 30-40 per cent higher, in terms of cardiovascular disease in women than in men, at the same gravity ‘of hypertension. In addition, there were significant physiological differences in the cardiovascular system of women, even in levels and types of hormones involved in the regulation of blood pressure, which contributed to the severity ‘and the frequency of heart disease.
