Health in crisis, do not care Umbrian 11 out of 100 - Journal of Umbria

PERUGIA – They gave up, even if only for a time, doctor visits, specialist investigations and operations, provision of health care they would need. They did Umbrian 9 out of 100, but the percentage rises to 11% if one includes those who have “cut” the purchase of drugs, even in this case, claiming to have needed it. There are those who quit for family commitments and work, but they are a minority compared to those who did it for problems of supply of such services – for instance the waiting lists are too long or inconvenient hours for your appointment, or even difficulty reaching the structure – and even more, let’s talk about one person out of two, because of scarce economic resources. To deprive yourself of at least one of these services which should be provided by the Public Health Service in 2012 were primarily women, with a percentage of 13% compared with 9% of men.

is what emerges from the information gathered for the first time through the analysis on the phenomenon of health services waiver (forgone care) within the survey conducted by ISTAT multi purpose “Health conditions and use of health services” organized with the support of the Ministry of Health and the Regions. It is a first overview on the health conditions of the population and on the response to the health needs of health care in this particular phase of the economic crisis. Among the factors analyzed the level of satisfaction of the people for the public health service, which in Umbria, on a scale between 1 and 10 reaches an average score overall above satisfactory, equal to 6.3, a judgment in line with the 6.1 2005 and higher than the national average of 5.8.

In times of crisis in our region grows slightly the range of persons (14 years and older) who claims to be very bad, a percentage that rises from 8, 1 to 8% in 2005, 4% in 2012 , and that is confirmed higher than the national average of 7.7% (in this case, the increase was greater because in 2005 the figure was 6.8%). 16.4% of the population, then, claims to have at least one serious chronic disease, a figure down from 18% in 2005 but higher than the 14.8% national. It comes down to three percentage points, from 18.3% to 15.3% (the average Italian is 13.9%) who declares multi-chronic problems, or to be affected by three or more chronic diseases. Needless to say that among the various segments of the population are the elderly to be more vulnerable, with social inequalities related to economic resources available, but the photograph Istat also notes an increase in spatial inequalities, with the south most affected by the deterioration of the health of the population.

To learn about aspects of health-related quality of life was also used a battery of questions that allows you to build two indices, one related to the state of physical health and the other refers to the state of psychological health. Compared to 2005, in Umbria seems to improve the overall perception of physical health conditions, with an average score corresponding index rising from 49.9 to 50.7, while it is stable at 48.6 that relating to the psychological state, contrary to what happens at the national level, where there was a worsening (it drops from 49.6 to 48.8).

is certain is that compared to 2005 the number of visits per 100 people in our region has increased much less than the national average, we have gone from 62.3 to 64 per hundred people, compared to a national average that has increased from 51 , 2 to 60.3. Specifically, visits for pediatric general and standardized the quotient by 100 people grows changed from 29.6 to 33.2, while for specialist visits declined from 29.3 to 28.
