Papa Francesco, take care of the health of the homeless - The Daily

 homeless

I spent an evening with the Italian medical volunteers who every evening placing a camper first reception at the Milan Central Station . They are targeting people who by choice or necessity, live on the streets. They told me that welcome, visit and distribute drugs to dozens of people every night. They have the pulse of the real situation on the numbers of suffering and are convinced that the spaces for the homeless and the “new poor ” are less and less in relation to the accentuation of the phenomenon .

I asked Pierfrancesco Majorino , Councillor for Social Policies of the Municipality of Milan, what are the numbers of beds this year. He replied that the availability for the homeless during the previous junta had stopped in 1248. The current junta led the beds last year to 2520 this year and have already been occupied 1790 and arriving at 2700. But how many of these are actually used, and are not, however, always occupied by those who “live ” to stay in them? The effort is huge by all, Institutions and Volunteering , but I think, as I have written elsewhere, if the churches were open there would not be a risk, with the arrival of the cold more intense, to have some person in need of life. At the bottom is becoming a problem of public health . I saw that no citizen has approached the camper but I am convinced that if you attrezzasse a small area of ??each church many citizens spontaneously work collaboratively even just offering a blanket, a hot meal or a cot.

I sent a tweet to Papa Francesco (do you also to @ Pontifex_it) to ask him to open the churches to the homeless. I hope that he, who is demonstrating with facts willingness to change, may decide to take care of the health of homeless people. Francis, please, listen to the faint helping those who help them.
