"Health in danger to save shopping" - Journal of Modena

The association objects to the lack of initiatives: one can not ignore the risks

The League for the Defence ecological group in Modena for years dealing with the protection of the territory, warns procured pollution from traffic.

“Air pollutants beyond the limits – wrote in a note to the members of the League ecological – are not dangerous only on Thursday or after January 6: it’s time to adapt to do what has already been put in place by other local authorities focusing on the environmental sanitation and health protection. The repeated and alarming violations of the limits for PM10 dust in this December, affecting even the Ferrari park, in our opinion, raise serious doubts about the rationality of the provisions in force in relation to maneuver pollution or smog. All citizens of Modena are aware that in December there are frequent foggy days or twilight skies, and characterized by great stability involving atmospheric stagnation and concentration of air pollutants to the ground. The concept is very simple and in the public domain, however, is ignored by the anti-pollution operation of our local government that, in fact, is aimed at so many things but certainly not effective in terms of protecting the health of citizens. Recall that the maneuver smog – continues the League for the ecological defense – in our region differs from those of other regions, because such does not provide for the number plate or other limitation of the traffic right in the most critical winter period, between the first and 6 December and January the following year. The restrictions in place at other times of the year for the most polluting vehicles are just as open to criticism in that they relate to vehicles now disappeared from circulation or relating to the single day on Thursday, as if it were the critical fixed on this day. Insufficient awareness of the risk that entails limiting interventions, such as the number plate or block traffic, are not fully understood as essential tools for protecting the health, encouraging the adoption of measures misleading or ineffective. The much discussed and criticized Christmas consumerism has evidently found space enough to overshadow the provisions relating to the protection of health. “
